Quoted in the Pilates Style Magazine as the Next Big Thing", The GYROTONIC EXPANSION System® was envisioned by Juliu Horvath (a former Ballet Dancer from Romania) in the 80's in New York and is based on the principals of Yoga, dance, swimming, gymnastics and martial arts.  The exercises involve circular movements with special attention paid to increasing the functional capacity of the spine in order to enhance body mechanics.

Gyrotonic® develops core strength, overall flexibility and coordination. The System is supported by specially designed
equipment that uses weights and pulleys to provide resistance. Currently, The GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® is used world wide with great success for professional dancers, athletes, rehabilitation facilities, as well as general conditioning for people all ages from children to senior citizen.

Gyrotonic® focuses on larger circular movements radiating from core strength out to the limbs .The even and constant resistance in the GYROTONIC® handle unit and pulley tower, (through the triple reduction in the pulleys), completely  eliminates the jarring that takes place at the beginning and end of exercises performed on conventional exercise equipment, when many injuries occur. The circular, spiraling and undulating movements that characterize the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® help to increase the functional capacity of the spine, resulting in increased equilibrium through out the whole body.
